Abstract

A Sand pot incubation experiment was carried out to study the effects of different genotypes on the uptake and utilization of insoluble soluble phosphate (Al-P and Fe-P) by Chinese milk vetch (Astragalus sinicus). The results indicated that the growth characteristics, plant biomass and P uptake of different parts varied greatly with different P sources. Plant height, stem diameter, branch number all appeared as K-P > Al-P > Fe-P > CK, and significant difference was observed between two kinds of insoluble phosphate. For most genotypes of the Chinese milk vetch, Al-P was significantly higher than Fe-P in aboveground, underground and total fresh and dry weights, implying that Al-P could be assimilated by Chinese milk vetch in a easier way. The uptake of insoluble phosphate by No. 6 Minzi and No. 1 Minzi were higher than Yu Jiang Daye and Yi Jiang zi. Aboveground, underground and total P uptake of all genotypes appeared as K-P > Al-P > Fe-P > CK. No. 6 Minzi and No. 1 Minzi had greater capacity of uptaking and utilizing insoluble P, than the other three species. According to the relationship between plant P uptake and biomass, P uptake was positively correlated with the plant biomass. The regression between total dry weight and total P uptake was significant in CK and Al-P treatments, not significant in K-P and Fe-P treatments, indicating that the absorption of Al-P in was greater than Fe-P in the utilization of insoluble phosphate by Chinese milk vetch.
