Abstract

The aim of the experiment was to explore the synergistic toxic effects of nonylphenol ethoxylate(NP10EO) and its primary degradation product nonylphenol(NP) on Moina macrocopa. The acute and subchronic toxic effects of either NP10EO, NP, or a combination of the two chemicals on M. Macrocopa, were studied in laboratory. The results showed that NP was more toxic to M. Macrocopa than NP10EO. The 24 h and 48 h LC50 values were 0.154, 0.065 mg·L-1 for NP, and 3.37, 2.11 mg·L-1 for NP10EO, respectively. The extent of toxic interactions was evaluated by converting mixture LC50 estimates to toxic units(Tus). The 24h and 48h LC50 values of binary mixtures of NP10EO and NP were 0.646 and 0.291 Tus, respectively. Moreover, combined exposure to NP10EO and NP caused marked decreases in reproduction and growth in F0 generation of M. Macrocopa, and it substantially shortened the body length of larvae. The results suggest that NP10EO and NP can interact synergistically.
