Investigation of Sulfur Contents in Heavy Oil Reference Materials by Terahertz Spectroscopic Technique

Abstract
Terahertz time domain spectroscopy(THz-TDS) is a brand new far infrared coherent spectral technique based on femtosecond laser technology.In this paper,the optical characteristics of five kinds of heavy oil reference materials in 0.2-1.6 THz have been investigated using THz-TDS.Experimental results showed that the time delay,absorption spectrum and refractive index strongly depend on the types of heavy oil reference materials with different sulfur contents.It is demonstrated that the THz-TDS is highly sensitive to minor changes of heavy oil types and can be used in identification of heavy oil quality and type research.关键词
