Abstract
In Xiyouji the character of the earlier Sun Wukong proves to be totally different from the later one in both personality and ability. He is an aggressive, upright and fearless man in the previous seven chapters but becomes a man with fear, coward and can not distinguish friends from enemies after his conversion to Buddhism. As for his ability, he becomes a tool and mediocre, not courageous any more. Fame and official career are the motivations for his transformation with the deep social roots of the rules of the upper classes. Sun Wukong is a tragedy character because of the rules, through which Xiyouji condemns the unfair society which suppresses and destroys talents. Hence Xiyouji should be a condemned novel.关键词
