Abstract
Objective To analyze the causes and characteristics of ocular trauma in Chinese level II hospital for peacekeeping in Lebanon, and to prevent the occurrence of ocular trauma. Methods Retrospective analysis was made in the outpatients and inpatients in the 7th term of medical corps of Chinese level II peacekeeping hospital from March 1,2011 to October 20,2011. Results Among the 51 cases of ocular trauma( 55 eyes ),there were 46 male ones and 5 female ones aged from 9-48 years old ( averaged 30. 15 ). The ocular trauma was in right eye in 25 cases, in left eyes in 22 ones and in both eyes in 4 cases. Thirty four caseswere peacekeeping soldiers; 16 were local and international employees; 1 was a local student. Their nationality included Lebanon( 16 cases ), Spain( 9 cases ), France( 6 cases ), Nepal( 4 cases ), China( 3 cases ), Tanzania( 3 cases ), South Korea( 3 cases ), Malaysia( 2 cases ),Portugal( 2 cases ),Italy( 1 case ),Germany( 1 case )and India( 1 case ). The time from injury to visiting hospital in 30 cases was within 24 h; 17 cases was 1 - 7 d and 4 cases was longer than 7 d. Blunt and contused trauma of eyeball accounted for 45. 09% , and other kinds of ocular trauma accounted for 54. 91% ( such as electric ophthalmia, corneal and conjunctival foreign body, scald and chemical burn of cornea and conjunctiva and corneal abrasion, etc ). The causes of injury included work( 30 cases ), exercising( 7 cases ), boxing( 6 cases, all were foreign soldiers )and other accidental trauma( 7 cases ). 48 cases received the treatment in the level II hospital( 43 outpatient ones and 5 ones with hospitalization), 1 case with corneal leukoma was not treated and 2 cases were sent to the level III hospital and repatriated to their own countries for operation. Conclusion Ocular trauma is the most common disease in peacekeeping personnel,which should be paid much attention and prevented actively. Once occurred, this injury should be diagnosed and treated in specialist departments in order to diminish the occurrence of complications.关键词
