Abstract

Magnesia cement applied to downhole has some advantages of decrease waiting on cement to set, completely acid-soluble, easy flow to a narrow annular space and low thermal conductivity. This paper uses physical phase analysis, scanning electron microscope and other means to study the magnesia cement's thermal stability and acid dissolution characteristics in the water bath simulation down hole conditions. We also analyze and discuss the mechanism of magnesium oxychloride cement strength decline in the hydrothermal environment. Experiments show that magnesium oxychloride cement in hydrothermal environments 5-1-8-phase undergoes phase transition which results in the rapid attenuation of intensity. However, sulfur oxygen magnesium cement overcomes the poor stability of magnesium oxychloride cement in hydrothermal environments, and has excellent acid-soluble properties after adding 5%calcium carbonate. It provide a new temporary closure sealing technology for the pay formation in blocking or temporarily closing.
