Abstract

Some boiler tubes in supercritical and ultra supercritical power plant work in supercritical water, the oxidation resistance of which affects directly their lifetime. The oxidation of low alloy steel T24 exposed to supercritical water containing different dissolved oxygen concentration of 10-7, 3×10^-7 and 2×10^-6 at 550 ℃ under 25 MPa was investigated. Weight gains were measured by milligram balance. The surface and cross-sectional morphologies as well as elemental depth profiles were observed by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). The oxide phase structures were analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD). Based on these observations, the influence of dissolved oxygen concentration on oxidation of T24 was also discussed. The results show that weight gain increases With the dissolved oxygen concentration increasing. The oxide layer is a typical dual-layered structure. High dissolved oxygen can lead to a milt-layered structure. Dissolved oxygen concentration plays an important role on oxide scale exfoliation.
