Concepts of Fengshui and Grass-roots Public - On Prohibition of Mining in Wannan During the Ming and Qing rder Period

Abstract
This paper deals with the reasons and situation of the prohibition of the mining in Wannan during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Wannan mining challenged the local cultural belief of Fengshui, undermined the ecological balance , and caused social unrests and endless disputes. Fengshui was very popular in Wannan during Ming and Qing dynasties. To protect dragon vein and rural Fengshui,defend their interests, the clans and the local gentlemen took participation in the local activities of prohibition of mining, achieving the positive interaction to some extent between the feudal officials and the gentlemen. They emphasized the reasons of the prohibition of mining: mineral activities might threaten the local social order and affect the levy of taxes. So various ways were taken to stop mineral activities. Through the research centered on prohibition of mining in Wannan during the Ming and Qing Dynasties, we can know that the good interactive relationship between local society and national power plays an important role in maintaining the traditional social order and rural geomancy. The gentlemen and clans of Wannan district massively participated in the local economic development during the Ming and Qing dynasties.关键词
