摘要

Abstract

Objective This study aims to examine the expression of active forms of the Akt/mTOR signal pathway proteins , p - Akt and p - mTOR, in gastric carcinoma and to analyze the correlations with clinical pathology characteristics. Methods The expression of p - Akt and p - mTOR was determined in 93 specimens of gastric carcinomas and 40 of control tissues by immunohistochemistry. The correlations between expression levels and clinical pathology features of gastric carcinoma were analyzed. Results The positive rates of p - Akt and p - mTOR in gastric carcinomas were 54. 8% (51 cases ) and 57. 0% ( 53 cases ) respectively, both significantly higher than in the control tissues ( P <0. 01 ). The positive rates of the two proteins were also significantly different among cases of different depth of invasion, degrees of differentiation, lymph node metastasis status and clinical stages ( P <0. 05 ); but were not significantly different among cases of different ages and genders ( P >0. 05 ). The expression of p - Akt and p - mTOR was positively correlated in gastric carcinoma tissues ( r =0. 327, P <0. 01 ). Conclusion The expression of Akt/mTOR signal pathway proteins in gastric carcinoma is positively correlated with tumor progression, the detection of which shed light on the prediction of prognosis. Still, these proteins might serve as new molecular markers and targets for treatment.
