A SURVERY OF THE PREVALENCE OF PORCINE REPRODUCTIVE AND RESPIRATORY SYNDROME IN WEIFANG

Abstract
Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome （PRRS） is characterized by severe reproductive failure in sows and respiratory distress in piglets and growing pigs and continues to threat swine industry. Blood samples were collected from 20 farms of 7 counties in Weifang area and tested by RT-PCR for the presence of PRRS virus. The PRRS virus positive samples were found in all 7 counties. Among tested samples, the positive rate was 67.9% （35%-82%）. The results indicated that PRRS was prevalent in Weifang area. More positive samples were found in the counties where many small pig farms were present. The PRRS morbidity and mortality varied greatly between pigs of different ages with the highest mortality in 30-60 days old piglets. No significant difference in the susceptibility to PRRS virus and positive rate was observed in different breeds of pigs.关键词
