Abstract

In view of the influence of rail surface irregularity on the vibration characteristics of block-supported track in elevated system, field test was carried out and the vibration responses of track structure induced by different rail surface irregularities were comparatively analyzed in time and frequency domain respectively with emphasis on the vibration range of 10~l 000 Hz. The analysis results show that wheel/rail impact forces and vibration acceleration amplitude of track structure increase with the increment of rail surface irregularity amplitude, and are also influenced by the type of rail surface irregularity and wavelength distribution. The frequency of rail vibration caused by rail surface irregularity is mainly distributed within the range of 50~l 000 Hz. The vertical vibration frequency of rail support bed, bridge deck slab is distributed within the range of 40~200 Hz. The wavelength distribution of rail surface irregularity is one of the main factors influencing the distribution characteristics of track vibration frequency. A drop of 0. 2 mm in amplitude can diminish 14.1 dB in rail vertical vibration level for harmonic type of rail surface irregularity, and the rail surface irregularity spectrum is recommended as one of the track quality evaluation indicators.
