Abstract

Considering the fact that the ladder pipe in deep-sea mining transporting system is likely to break down under high axial force and the connect parts tend to be stress concentration, a kind of low density was put forward, and high intensity carbon fiber composite pipe is applied to deep-sea mining transporting system. Based on the fact that the transporting pipe is under the inter-action of the draft of mining ship, the gravity of the transporting pipe and the inner liquid as well as buoyancy, carbon fiber composite pipe and steel ladder pipe were analyzed. The results show that when the mining ship is motionless, carbon fiber composite pipe's bending moment and bending stress are equal to steel ladder pipe's, but its axial force is less than one fourth of steel ladder pipe's and it can take larger axial force than steel ladder pipe. When the mining ship moves with constant peed of 0.5 m/s, the axial force, bending moment and bending stress of the two pipes are almost the same as the condition that the mining ship is motionless, but carbon fiber composite pipe's bending stress is less than half of steel ladder pipe's, and it can overcome the defect of overlarge bending stress when ladder pipe is rigid connected.
