摘要

Abstract

The free cutting Pb-free Mg-Ca brass was fabricated using medium frequency induction furnace. The microstructure of the alloy was analyzed using SEM and XRD. The hardness was measured by a Brinell hardness tester and cutting properties were studied by lathe. The results show that a-phase, p-phase and Cu2Mg phase exist in the alloy. With the increase of magnesium content, the Cu2Mg particles increas. The hardness of the brass increases as Mg content increases, as the Mg content exceed 1.5(wt.) % , the hardness increasing is not so obviously. The cutting property of the brass can be improved by the addition of Mg.
