Abstract

Rice heading date is an important agronomic trait. Mapping heading date gene is important for rice improvement. A rice( Oryza sativa L. ) mutant with a early heading date,designated as edh(t) ,was found from a ja-ponica rice variety Nipponbare. This early heading date mutant phenotype was stably expressed through successive five self-crossed generations, and its heading date was earlier 15 days than that in wild-type. Genetic analysis showed that the phenotype of edh (t) was controlled by a single dominant nuclear gene, temporarily designated as EHD(t). By means of molecular marker technique,the EHD(t) gene was mapped to an interval between two SSR markers RM223 and RM584 on chromosome 8 with two F2 segregating population, with genetic distances of 5.2 cM and 6. 1 cM to each marker respectively. This is the basis for marker-assisted selection and map-based coloning this EHD(t) gene.
