Abstract

The existence of a free surface makes liquid sloshing a very complicated non-linearity and randomness phenomenon. The liquid sloshing under medium depth, deep depth, and with a baffle in the tank was simulated based on the smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) method. The liquid sloshing under medium depth and deep depth was simulated first and the comparison between numerical results and theoretical liner superposition results shows a good agreement and that the model is reasonable. The liquid sloshing with a baffle in the tank was simula-ted later, proposing the boundary treatment approach of particles at the preventive oscillating baffle which were searched regionally. The results were compared with those without a baffle in the tank; the reductions between them are 33. 3% and 30. 6% under external excitation amplitude A =0.025 m, and 73. 3% and 76. 2% under external excitation amplitude A =0. 150 m. This shows that the preventive oscillating baffle plays a role in reducing the slos-hing amplitude under the same external force.
