Contrast Analysis of Two Serious Air Pollution Events Affecting Nanjing and Its Surrounding Regions Resulting From Burning of Crop Residues

Abstract
Two serious air pollution events resulting from burning of crop residues occurred in 2008 and 2010 affecting Nanjing and its surrounding regions were analyzed on commons and differences in weather situation, satellite remote sensing, physical diagnoses and simulated back trajectories. Results show that the event in 2008 was controlled by shear line in the substratum and the one in 2010 by high pressure in weather; in 2008 the burning took place only in Jiangsu Province, but in 2010 it did in Jiangsu, Anhui, Zhejiang provinces; in 2008, the weak upward current in the substratum led to the high concentration air pollution, while in 2010, the dominance of downdraft made the pollution extensive in area; in 2008, the pollution came from Jiangsu Province, whereas in 2010 it did from Jiangsu and Anhui simultaneously. These differences made the two events different in scope and intensity.关键词
