Abstract

The effect of salinity on the growth and survival of Litopenaeus vannamei,Fenneropenaeus chinensis and Penaeus monodon were investigated for developing high salinity aquiculture in Bohai. Postlarvae of the above three species were reared in the culture medium with salinity of 30‰ and 45‰ respectively, and fed with formulated feed. The results showed that salinity had no effect on the growth of L. Vannamei and F. Chinensis, while a significant effect of salinity on the growth of P. Monodon was observed. In addition, the survival rate and growth of L. Vannamei exposed to salinities of 30‰ and 45‰ were significantly higher than F. Chinensis and P. Monodon, indicating that L. Vannamei was more tolerant of a hypersaline environment.
