Abstract

In the process of horizontal well production, edge/bottom water coning is a common issue due to varied porosity and per-meability in different intervals of horizontal wells. Based on the principle of circuit simulated regulation, 4 uniform flow control elements such as slotted liner, screen-blank tubing combination, throttling nozzle and capillary as well as their optimal design have been introduced through research on the control elements on horizontal well completion pipestring to maximize production and allow uniform inflow from each horizontal interval. Design calculation indicates that the big inflow difference from each horizontal interval has been remarkably reduced or even disappeared after optimal design, thus allowing uniform advance of edge/bottom water from each sublayer or horizontal interval to prevent premature coning and delay water breakthrough in edge/bottom water reservoirs.
