Effect of calcitriol on serum BNP, matrix metalloproteinase-9 and left ventricular mass index in patients with congestive heart failure

Abstract
Objectives: To investigate the effect of calcitriol on plasma B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) , matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) and left ventricular mass index in patients with congestive heart failure ( CHF). Methods; Eighty patients with CHF and 80 healthy examined people as normal control group were recrui -ted to this study. Patients were randomly divided into two groups : general therapy group (n =40) and Calcitriol therapy group (n =40). All subjects were followed up for 1 year. The levels of serum Ca , BNP, MMP-9 and left ventricular mass index (LVMI) were examined in all subjects. The rates of cardiovascular events and adverse reactions in the two study groups were investigated.Results:At the end of this study , the levels of serum BNP and MMP-9 were significantly decreased in calcitriol therapy group in contrast to general therapy group( P < 0. 05 ). LVMI obtained from echocardiography decreased in calcitriol therapy group in contrast to general therapy group , but there no significant differences between the two study groups in LVMI , the levels of serum Ca2+, the rates of cardiovascular events and adverse reactions , P >0. 05. Conclusion: Calcitriol might significantly decrease the levels of serum BNP and MMP-9 in patients with CHF.关键词
