Study on Antibacterial Effects of Different Biological Agents on Pig Pathogenic Escherichia coli

Abstract

In order to provide the basis of using biological agents for preventing pig colibacillosis, the antibacterial effect of antibacterial drugs, Chinese medicine and probiotics had been inspected on intensive pig farms in Henan province. Antimicrobial susceptibility testing was performed on 87 pathogenic Escherichia coli isolates by using 15 antibacterial drugs, 14 Chinese medicines and 7 Lactobacil-lus and Bacillus. The results showed; (1) Pig pathogenic E. Coli showed multi resistance to 15 antimicrobials, and were resistances to 3 ~ 13 antimicrobial drugs. There were 31 different drug-resistance patterns and resistances percentage to 8 antimicrobials agents accounted for the highest ( 27. 59% ). A-mong the 15 antimicrobial drugs, resistant rate of norfloxacin and tetracycline arrived at 95. 4% , but high sensitive rates of polymyxin B, ceftiofur and amikacin were 92. 0% , 86. 2% and 74. 7% , respectively. (2) Besides sweet wormwood, 13 kinds of Chinese medicine had antibacterial effects on E. Co-li, among them, granatum (89. 7% ), skullcap (82. 7% ) and coptis (80. 5% ) had the optimal antibacterial effects. But the inhibition rate of houttuynia (19. 5% ), isatis root (12. 6% ) and androgra-phis (9. 2% ) was very low, less than 20%. (3) A better inhibitory capacity on pathogenic pig E. Coli is indicated by every probiotics. Except that Bacillus megaterium (88. 5% ), the others inhibition rate is above 90%. And the inhibition rate of lactobacillus - 2 and bacillus subtilis accounted for the highest 94. 3% and 92. 0% , respectively. This study shows that the resistance of pig pathogenic E. Coli is serious in intensive pig farm of Henan. It may instruct application of the antibiotics reasonably of the screening antibiosis drugs. The screening Chinese medicine and probiotics have better inhibitory capacity on pig pathogenic E. Coli, can provide significant basis for development of biological agent to control pig colibacillosis.
