Abstract

A trajectory imaging method for on-line velocity and size measurement of coal particles was experimentally investigated. The effects of main recording parameters on the measurement results were carried out: imaging spatial resolution and exposure time. The imaging spatial resolution is determined by the resolution of charge-coupled device (CCD) and imaging magnification factor, which is with respect to the size measurement. The exposure time is related to velocity measurement. A series experiments with different imaging magnification factor and exposure time were carried out, which shows that for a good measurement of particle velocity and size, the imaging magnification factor and exposure time are both to be set appropriately, making N larger than 6, and R between 3-8. The work can be a basis for the determination of appropriate recording parameters, which takes an important step towards successful application of the trajectory imaging method for coal particle measurement in coal fired power plant.
