摘要
Abstract
Objective To investigate the effects of venlafaxine on working memory, visual memory and mental processing speed in the treatment of depression. Methods Eighty - four patients diagnosed with depression and free of antidepressants and other psychophar-macological drug were randomly assigned to receive venlafaxine or sertraline for 12 weeks. Effects on cognitive function was measured by tests of digit span, spatial working memory, pattern recognition memory, paired associates learning, delayed matching to sample, reaction time and stroop color-word test. Efficacy was measured by Hamilton Depression Scale (HAMD, 17 item version) before and after treatments of 12 weeks. Results Patients performance of spatial working memory, pattern recognition memory, paired associates learning and stroop color - word test were significantly improved after treatment! P < 0. 05 or P < 0. 01 ). Venlafaxine group' s score on delayed matching to sample was significantly better than sertraline groupC P < 0. 05 ). The interaction effects of medication group and time were significant on digit span and paired associates learning! P < 0. 05 or P < 0. 01 ). Conclusion Both venlafaxine and sertraline could improve working memory, visual memory and mental processing speed of depression patients. Venlafaxine was superior to sertraline at improving working and visual memory.关键词
