Batch treatment of Cr(Ⅵ) in water using a novel electrodialyser

摘要

Abstract

A novel electrodialyser with five-stage and tortuous-path spacers was developed and used for treating the synthetic wastewater containing Cr(VI) in batch. Experimental results showed that the electrodialyser was superior in purifying wastewater. It could reduce the Cr(VI) concentration from initial 100 mg ? L-1 to lower than 0. 2 mg ? L-1. The optimum operational conditions for Cr( VI) removal are: a velocity of 140 mm ? S-1 in the dilute chambers, a Cr(VI) concentration of 6 g ? L-1 in the concentrate, and an average voltage of 6 V for each pair of membranes. The energy consumption in this condition is about 2. 59 kWh ? Mol-1 Cr(VI).
