Abstract

Clinotron is modification of the backward-wave oscillator. The basic principles of the electron-wave interaction in the clinotron are that the electron beam is inclined to the surface of the slow wave structure. By varying the tilt angle, it is easy to optimize the length of the interaction space, realize higher output power and efficiency. This paper gives the design of the slow wave structure of a W-band Clinotron. the dispersion equation and coupling impendence were calculated using Microwave studio and HF-SS. The 3D-PIC software was used to implement 3D simulation for beam-wave interaction. The simulation indicated that a 20 W output power and a 15 GHz bandwidth can be obtained.
