Abstract

The gas exploration and development of the tight sandstone reservoir are affected by fractures and the reservoir of Member 2 of Upper Triassic Xujiahe Formation (T3x2) belongs to the tight sandstone reservoir in West Sichuan with poor porosity and permeability. The fractures control the exploration and development results of the reservoir, so the research of the fractures in the tight sandstone reservoir is the key to exploration and development. This paper first researches the fractures of core with geological description, 3-D CT scan, full-diameter core in T3x2, and forms the exact point on the characterization. Secondly it makes fracture identification by analyzing the reservoir section of conventional logging response characteristics of different types of fractures, using imaging logging, and 3-D finite element method of laterolog. At last, it uses multi-wave splitting technique to research and identify the distribution of the fractures in plane with 3-D 3C seismic data. This forms the research methods series of identifying fractures with point, line, and surface and the fracture system of geological reserves can be also calculated. The methods not only offer the exact targets in the tight sandstone reservoir gas exploration, but also the effective guidance of evaluation and development of reserves.
