Abstract

Ce3+ doped Y2O3-Al2O3-SiO2 (SAY) glass was synthesized by high temperature solid-state melting method under weak reducing atmosphere, and yellow YAG glass-ceramic was obtained after being heat treated at 1250℃ 1300℃. By using X-ray diffractometry (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), we studied the crystalline phase structure of the glass-ceramic. The luminescence characteristics of Ce3+ ion in different matrixes of glass and glass-ceramic samples were studied by the excitation and emission spectroscopy, and we also studied the influence of Al2O3/Y2 O3 on the luminescence properties. The results show that we can obtain the Ce-YAG glas-ceramics after heat treating the as-made glasses, and the grain size of the Ce-YAG phase is between 80-120nm with well-developed grains. The glass ceramics can emit yellow fluorescence centered at 530nm with a broad emission spectrum under the excitation at 450nm, which attributes to the energy transfer 5d-4f (2 F2/7 ) of the Ce^3+ , and indicates that it has a great value in application and development in the field of LED lighting. The molar ratio of Al2O3/Y2O3 has a great effect on the luminescence properties of the as-made glass-ceramics. When the A12O3/Y2O3 equals to1.5, the sample has the excellent luminescent performance.
