Abstract
Evaluating the historic monuments of Dengfeng in ＂The Center of Heaven and Earth＂ required a painstaking research of the entire history and culture and a careful distinction between facts and fiction. The study took a fresh approach and challenges conventional ideas that were only hearsay and scientifically not well grounded. It successfully combined the WCH evaluation criterion ＂outstanding universal value＂ with the traditional Chinese idea of ＂three basic values＂. Based on an authentic assessment, the master conservation plan guaranteed conservation on a comprehensive level and on a detailed level. It gave attention to every individual historic building, which does not only fulfill the WCH application requirements but also improves local conservation practice.关键词
