Preparation and Wear Resistance of SiC/Fe Composites with Interpenetrating Structure

Abstract
SiC ceramic with the complex shape was prepared via the curing of phenol–formaldehyde resin,carbonization and in-situ siliconization.Two kinds of interpenetrating SiC/metal(i.e.,high manganese steel and high chromium cast iron) composites were fabricated by metal casting.The tribological properties of the two composites were investigated by a wet rubber wheel grinding fric-tion tester and a UMT-3 multi-specimen test system.The surface morphologies of the two composites and the two metal matrices after abrasion were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy.The wear loss of the metal matrices was more than those of the respective composites.The micro-protrudes formed on the surfaces due to the addition of SiC ceramic,which has a higher strength and hardness,compared to the metal matrices.As a result,the wear resistances of the two composites were improved.The wear resistance of the SiC/iron composite was higher than that of the SiC/steel composite.However,the SiC/steel composite displayed a better interfacial bonding.关键词
