Abstract

Objective: To explore the diagnostic value of heart-type fatty acid-binding protein (H-FABP) in acute ischemic stroke (AIS). Methods: DWI and MRI were acted as the gold standard, 146 cases were divided into AIS group (96 cases) and suspected Stroke group (50 cases). Eighty healthy cases were recruited as control group at the same time. The AIS group was further divided into large infarct, medium infarct and small infarct subgroups on the basis of infarction volume. The AIS group was further divided into cortex infarction, sub-cortical infarction and the cerebellum plus brain stem subgroups according to infarction sites. All demography and associated risk factors were collected. The levels of serum H-FABP were measured by ELISA in all the cases. Results: The levels of serum H-FABP in AIS group[ (1. 02 + 1. 33) ng/mL] were significantly higher than that in suspected Stroke group[(0. 18 + 0. 14)ng/mL] and control group [ (0. 13 + 0. 10) ng/mL] (P<0. 05). The levels of serum H-FABP showed difference in different infarct volume subgroups (P<C0. 05). The levels of H-FABP in serum presented no difference a-mong sites of infarction. The area under curve (AUCs) was 0. 897, and the diagnosis consistent rate was 82. 5%. Conclusion: H-FABP may be a sensitive biological marker in the early period of AIS. Serum H-FABP level is dependent on infarction lesion sizes but not the location.
