Abstract

Methane(CH4) emissions from all processing units were measured in a full-scale wastewater treatment plant in Jinan.The major sources of CH4 emissions were found to be the following units: anaerobic tanks,oxic tanks,anoxic tanks and secondary settlers.The most significant methane emissions occurred in anaerobic tanks,which accounted for over 50% of the total emissions of this plant.The total annual fluxes of CH4 emissions from the Jinan WWTP were 12 600 kg/yr,with the emission factors of per capita emissions of 31.5 g CH4/person·yr and flow-based emissions of 334.6 mg CH4/ton of wastewater.The most significant factor influencing methane emissions from anaerobic tanks might be COD concentration.High COD concentration could promote methane emissions.
