Abstract

Scattered row piles-soil-nailed wall protection is a new support form which combined soil-nailing wall and sparse row piles. It not only takes full advantages of the bending ability of row piles, but also effectively overcomes the disadvantages of the piles spacing restricted by the instability of soil between piles and the difficulty of displacement of control for soil nailing. The new protect structure of compound soil-nailing wall with sparse row piles has been widely used in engineering practices. However, the reinforcement mechanism and the failure mode of scattered row piles-soil-nailed wall protection structure is still poorly understood. A centrifuge study of scattered row piles-soil-nailed wall protection pit foundation was carried by Tongji University. Results of seven groups tests performed on the centrifuge at Tongji University show that the stability of pit foundation has significantly increased compared scattered row piles-soil-nailed wall protection technology to scattered row piles and soil nailing protection technology. Not only the length and spacing of nail in scattered row piles-soil-nailed wall protection pit, but also the spacing of the piles have significantly impact on the stability of a pit.
