Abstract
Objective To evaluate the effect of titanium elastic nails ( TEN ) fixation for the displaced midclavicular fractures. Methods 53 patients with displaced midclavicular fractures were fixed with TEN. VAS, Constant shoulder score, clinical healing time, clavicular shortening after TEN fixation, and complications for functional outcome measurement were recorded. Results 53 patients were followed up. A mean follow-up of 14 ～ 24( 18. 70 ± 3. 36 )months revealed radiographic fracture union in all patients with an average clinical healing time of 6 ～20( 11. 77 ±3.61 ) weeks. There was no infection, nonunion, nail breakage, or refracture after nail removal in our series. Mean subjective pain VAS score 3 days after surgery was significantly lower than the day before surgery( P < 0. 01 ). The mean Constant clinical outcomes score 6 months after surgery was 92 ～ 100( 97. 96 ± 2. 06 ). Conclusions Minimally invasive fixation with TEN is a safe method and can be performed with minor complications. This method of fixation of displaced midclaviclular fractures should result in a good cosmetic appearance and satisfactory stabilization of displaced midclavicular fractures without comminution.关键词
