Robustness and Fragility of Innovation Diffusion Networks within an Industry Cluster

Abstract
Combining weighted directed network with stochastic threshold model to delineate the cluster networks from individual firm decision perspective, this paper studies the robustness and fragility of innovation diffusion in an industry cluster through computer simulation. The results indicate that cluster network structures have significant impact on both robustness and fragility of innovation diffusion. While clusters with small-world network have weak robustness as well as lower fragility, clusters with scale-free network have good robustness and higher fragility. In addition, this paper also analyzes the influence of firms' decision modes on diffusion process, showing that the robustness and fragility of innovation diffusion process is not only affected by cluster network structure bus also by firms' decision behavior at micro-level.关键词
