Development of the Internet Situational Temptation Scale in college students
摘要
Abstract
Objective: To develop the Internet Situational Temptation Scale (ISTS) for college students. Methods: On the basis of preliminary interview research and learning from the temptation scale of smoking developed by Velicer, the ISTS was constructed and tested in 1174 college students. An exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was employed on two samples respectively ( n1 = 444, n, = 730). Another sample of 33 college students (31 valid) was tested and retested two weeks later. The Young's Diagnostic Questionnaire (YDQ) and online hours per week were used to test its criterion validity. Result: The final scale had 22 items and 4 dimensions, including boring & release needs < BRN), stimulus exposure (SE), exchanges & access to information (EAI), and negative emotion (NE). CFA revealed good model fit indices (X2/df=4. 48, RMSEA =0. 07, SRMR =0. 06, NNFI =0. 96, CFI =0. 97). Online hours per week were positively correlated with scores of BRN, SE, and NE (r =0. 20,0. 11, 0. 17, P <0. 05), but not corelated with scores of EAI (r =0.06, P > 0. OS). Except for EAI, the ISTS scores were significant higher in students with internet addiction than those without internet addiction (Ps <0.05). Cronbach α of the whole scale was 0.92, and range 0. 80 -0. 86 for each dimen-sioa The test-retest reliability was 0.73, and range 0.46 - 0. 75 for each dimension. Conclusion: It suggests that the Internet Situational Temptation Scale has good reliability and validity, and could be used for the prevention and intervention of Chinese college students'internet addiction.关键词
