Abstract

OBJECTIVE: To study the influence of preserving herbs with Mco-y ray irradiation on the quality of Fritillaria cir-rhosa. METHODS: After the samples were radiated with different doses of "Co-y ray, we observed the effects of radiation on protecting the medicines from mildewing and moth-eating, and determined the contents of total alkaloids and water-soluble nucleoside components in radiated and non-radiated F. Cirrhosa. RESULTS: The morphology and chemical components of the samples showed no changes after radiation, which could protect the samples from mildewing and moth-eating, and extend the storage time; total alkaloids and water-soluble nucleoside in F. Cirrhosa had no significant change. CONCLUSION: Mco-y ray radiation is an effective way to protect the herbs which is rich in starch and precious Chinese herbal medicines.
