Effect of Melt Treatment Temperature on 2024 Wrought Aluminum Alloy Semisolid Slurry Prepared by Self-Inoculation Method

Abstract
Semisolid slurry of 2024 wrought aluminum alloy was prepared by a new self-inoculation method (SIM) . The effect of melt treatment temperature on semi-solid slurry was investigated. The results show that the average grain size is larger when the melt treatment temperature is excessively low or high. The grain size is 27.1-32.2 μm when the melt treatment temperature is in the range of 700-730 ℃. According to the temperature variation curve, the cooling effect enhanced with the increasing of melt treatment temperature. A large number of crystal nuclei were formed in the 2024 melt under the chilling action of the self-inoculants. The liberation and proliferation of the grains occur when the melt flows through the multi-stream mixed cooling channel, which resulted in the refinement of the structures.关键词
