Abstract

Composite materials have some excellent performances such as high ratio of specific strength, high modulus ratio, easily designing and fabricating, lower cost, etc. So it is the first option for the wind turbine nacelle. The technology about nacelle design and fabrication is already matured in the domestic by now. However, there still exists a gap on comparison with some foreign countries in some technical skills such as strength calculation and product certification. Based on the classic laminate theory, the paper calculates the extreme strength for a certain nacelle cover by using the FE software ANSYS. It can be concluded some guideline methods of the composite structural design and laminate layup strategy from the analysis results. The tests demonstrate that this method is simple and practicable. It provides reference for the wind turbine designer.
