摘要

Abstract

Silk fibroin(SF) is stable,non-toxic and cheap,and is an excellent carrier material due to its availability,biodegradability and biocompatibility.Based on its unique amino acids composition and stable structure of self-assembling β-sheets,several methods for preparation of SF microspheres/microparticles are introduced,such as enzymolysis,spray drying,emulsification solvent evaporation,phase separation,electrospraying,as well as the new technologies of suspension-enhanced dispersion by supercritical CO2(SpEDS),and their sustained-release characteristics as drug carriers are also reviewed.In addition,it is recognized that challenges remain,including variation of silk between species and between individuals of the same species and inconsistencies in the degumming process.The future direction could be developing modified,composite or genetically engineered SF proteins,which would have potential applications in the biomedical field.
