Abstract

Bottle point experiments were carried out to investigate the effect of powdered activated carbon(PAC) on the removal of MC-RR and MC-LR in Yangtze River raw water. The influences of pH, PAC dosage and prechlorination were also analyzed during the adsorption in different solutions. The results showed that 86 % MC-RR and 71 % MC-LR were removed when adding 10mg/L PAC and reaching equilibrium state. In particular, the adsorption of MC-RR on PAC has greater capacity and faster rate than MC-LR. If more PAC is fed, the removal effect of MCs does not change much while reducing pH to a weakly acidic condition is more propitious to remove MCs by PAC. The influence of MCs removal effect by prechlorination is complicated, depending on the feeding mode of chlorine and PAC.
