Abstract
Objective:The aim of this in vitro study was to investigate the effects of two orthodontic adhesive systems on the bond strength of metallic and ceramic brackets. Method:One hundred premolars were divided into four groups: metallic brackets / conventional adhesive:metallic brackets / self-etching adhesive; ceramic brackets'conventional adhesive; and ceramic bracket,self-etching adhesive. Bonding shearing force was applied to the bracket-tooth interface. Scoring of bonding failure site was done using the adhesive remnant index (ARI). Result: Both self-etching adhesive system and conventional system produces clinically acceptable bond strengths. There is a statistically significant relationship between bond strength changes and ARI changes. Conclusion: There is a positive correlation between shearing bond strength and ARI. The bond strengths of metallic brackets were significantly higher than the ceramic. The self-etching adhesive produces clinically acceptable bonds in comparison with the conventional system.关键词
