Abstract
Objective To describe the level of self-care agency and quality of life(QOL)of nasopharyngeal carcinoma(NPC) patients after radiation therapy and to explore the relationship between them. Methods With convenient sampling, 121 NPC patients after radiation therapy were recruited for the evaluation of self-care ability and QOL by Exercise of Self-Care Agency Scale (ESCA) and the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire Core-30 (EORTC, QLQ-C30), European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire Head&Neck-35 (EORTC, QLQ-H&N35). Results The total score of ESCA was (115.63±17.70). Among functional domains of QLQ-C30, patients got the lowest score of (68.18± 20.75) in social function; among general symptom domains, patients got the highest score of (31.68±28.50) in insomnia; among symptom domains of QLQ-H&N35, patients got the highest score in dry mouth, followed with sticky saliva, weight loss and tooth problem. Self-care agency correlated positively with functional domains of QOL and the general quality of life (r=0.224~0.410, P<0.05), while correlated negatively with symptom domains of QOL(r=-0.355～-0.184, P<0.05). Conclusion Higher self-care agency is associated with higher body function, the general quality of life and milder discomfortable symptom in NPC patients after radiation therapy.关键词
