Abstract

Universities use a lot of water, and thus it has a great significance to research and improve the domestic water-saving technologies and measures in universities. The domestic water uses and water-saving measures are studied in Beijing Normal University, which proposes several problems in the water conservation, such as the lack of capacity in the treatment of the reclaimed water, the waste of tap water, the excessive water for bath, the waste of the flushing water, and the water loss caused by the damages of the water appliances. Five water-saving technologies and measures are proposed, including the increasing of the treatment of the reclaimed water, the tap water control in the student dormitory based on the quota management, the bath water control based on the laddered water price, the flushing water control, and the reward mechanism for reporting the malfunction of the water supply system. The above technologies and measures are proposed based on the improvement of the existing water-saving technologies and measures and have a good feasibility. There are a total of 228 thousand cubic meter of water which can be saved every year if these measures are performed for the university, and thus these measures are beneficial for water conservation.
