Patterns of MUC1 expression in endometrial carcinomas TypeⅠand its significance

Abstract
Objective To investigate the patterns of MUC1 expression and its significance in the endometrial carcinoma type I. Methods The patterns of MUC1 protein expression in endometrial carcinomas type I (n =55), endometrial atypical hyperplasia (n =50), endometrial hyperplasia (n =36) and normal proliferative endometrium (n = 30) were examined by immunohistochemistry (Envision method),the correlation between the MUC1 expression and clinicopathologic parameters were analyzed. Results MUC1 immunostain in the endometrial hyperplasia and the normal proliferative endometrium was showed "pure apical" mostly (type A) , but in the endometrial atypical hyperplasia and the endometrial carcinomas type I , it was displayed " combined apical/cytoplasmic" mostly (type A/C). The difference was significant (all P < 0.01); The patterns of MUC1 protein expression in endometrial carcinomas was associated with the age (P = 0.044), but was not related to the histological grade (P = 0.678). Conclusions The MUC1 protein involves in the development of endometrial carcinomas type I , its expression pattern "combined apical/cytoplasmic'' may take as a diagnostic indicator of the endometrial carcinomas.关键词
