Treatment efficiency of polyvinyl alcohol and sodium alginate immobilized Flavobacterium sp.

Abstract
One strain was isolated from hydrocarbon-polluted surface water and sludge and was representative of Flavobacterium sp. (strain Oil-56). Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and sodium alginates (Na·Alg) embedding technology were adopted for Flavobacteriurn sp. immobilization. Secondly, the study investigated the treatment efficiency of the immobilized Flavobacteriurn sp. The immobilized Flavobacterium sp. beads made in this study were suitable for remediation of COD- contaminated surface water with a wide range of initial COD values. At initial COD 77-205 mg/L, the residual COD values for immobilized cells were 38-98 mg/L after 48 h, with removal efficiencies of 48. 2%-50. 6%, which was 42. 7%-45.8% higher than the free cells. The Scanning Electronic Microscope (SEM) analysis indicated that the bead microstructure was suitable for growth of Flavobacterium sp.关键词
