Review of research on tidal inlet stability

Abstract
This paper reviews the slate-of-the-art of researches on the geonwrphologic process of tidal inlets in view of the asymmetric time-velocity features, the volume of tidal prism and wetted cross section area relationship (P-A relationship), the hydrodynamic and sediment transport characteristics. Four main topics in the studies of the geomorphologic process of tidal inlets are summerized; the physical mechanism of P-A relationship; the reciprocity between the hydrodynamics, sediment transport and geomorphologic process; the stability mechanism of the submergible tidal inlets; and the evolution characteristics of the multiple tidal inlets.关键词
