摘要

Abstract

Objective To investigate the effect of resveratrol on the activity of myeloperoxidase (MPO ) and superoxide dismutase (SOD ) after spinal cord injury. Methods 96 adult male Sprague-dawley rats are randomly divided into 4 groups in the animal department of Renmin Hospital of Wuhan Univeristy from Feb 2008 to Aug 2010. After the model of moderate spinal cord injury was established according to the Allen's technique, Resveratrol ( l00mg/kg ) or MPSS (lOOmg/kg ) is fed immediately by tube Feeding. The changes of the activity of MPO and SOD are observed by colo-rimetry on the resveratrol group compared with the MPSS group at 8h, Id, 3d and 7d after spinal cord injury. Results The mean difference of the activity of MPO and SOD between on the resveratrol group and on the injury group is significant at 8h, 1d, 3d and 7d after spinal cord injury, which means that resveratrol can protect nerve cells after Spinal Cord Injury. Moreover, And the significance of the mean difference is displayed between on the resveratrol group and on the methylprednisolone group at 1d after spinal cord injury (P < 0.05 ). Conclusion Resveratrol can protect the spinal cord after its injury by inhibiting the activity of MPO and promoting the activity of SOD effectively.
