Abstract

Several NiMoC/ y -A12O3 catalysts were prepared by co-impregnation and temperature-programmed carbonization, which were used in tri-reforming of CH4, and were characterized by means of XRD, H2-TPR, CO2-TPD, O2-TPO and TG-DSC. The effects of Ni content in the catalysts on the catalyst activity in the tri-reforming, the surface activity and the crystal structure were investigated. The results showed that the activity of NiMoC-0.4/ γ -A12O3 catalyst with m(Ni) : m(Mo) of 0.4 was the highest, the conversions of CH4 and CO2, the yields of H2 and CO, and the K(H2) : F(CO) in the products reached 95.8% and about 100%, 99.0% and 95.8%, and 1.85 respectively under the conditions of atmospheric pressure, 850 X, GHSV 4 600 mL/h and n(CH4) : n(O2) : n(CO2) : n(H2O) 1.00 : 0.16 : 0.39 : 0.30. Doping of Ni promoted the formation of Mo2C, enhanced the interaction between Mo and the support, and increased the alkaline sites on the catalysts. Molybdenum carbide was protected because of easier oxidation of Ni3C, and then the molybdenum species was further carbonized when the catalysts were exposed in the reaction atmosphere, which improved the activity and the stability of NiMoC-0.4/ -γ -A12O3 catalyst.
