Design and Implementation of High-capacity Satellite Switching Fabrics

Abstract
A high-capacity switching fabric constructed with multiple small-scale switching units is introduced,which is designed for use in an on-board satellite environment. The Virtual Output Queue (VOQ) and the Virtual Input Queue (VIQ) management techniques adopted are described. The relationship between the cell length and the inner speed-up is analyzed. On that basis a method to choose proper cell length is proposed. We provide the routing and scheduling algorithm for the cooperative sub-schedulers to select inner links and routes, as well as a calculation method to decide how many sub-schedulers should be used. The effectiveness and merits of the proposed switching fabric and the related techniques have all been verified on a demonstrative test bed.关键词
