Abstract
Objective: To observe the clinical effects of Chinese herbal medicine of Jianpibushen (Chinese Yam - Epimedium mixture ) on nutritional status and humoral immunity for the old petients with stable moderate and severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease ( COPD). Methods: Thirty - two cases over 80 years old with stable COPD were randomly divided into the treatment group (TG) of 17 cases treated by oral administration of Chinese Yam - Epimedium mixture and the control group of 15 cases treated by oral administration of placebo. The body mass index(BMI) and mid-upper arm muscle circumference(MAMC) were measured, the levels of surum albu-min(ALB), red blood cell( RBC) , hemoglobin( HB), immunoglobulin G(IgG), immunoglobulin A(IgA), and immunoglobulin M( IgM ) , were analyzed before and after treatment for 1 month and 3 months. Results; ALB and HB were obviously increased(P <0.01) , RBC, IgG, and IgA were also increased in the treatment group compared with those of the control group after 1 month treatment (P <0.05). ALB, HB, and RBC have no significant changes in the treatment group after 3 months treatment compared with those of conlrol group. Nevertheless, IgG and IgA were significantly higher in the treatment group than that of the control group( P <0. 01). Conclusion; Chinese Yam - Epimedium mixture can significantly improve the nutritional status and humoral immunity of the old patients with COPD, which can be benefited from the rehabilitation care.关键词
