Abstract

Power swing blocking of transmission line protection is important section for power system safety, so properly design of it is a challenging job for entire protection. This paper improved the power swing blocking scheme in following aspects including modifying starting component, computing short-time open time in real time, presenting asymmetrical open and symmetrical open criterion in power swing blocking. A fault detector and startup accelerator were proposed to improve the performance of fault component start relay and zero sequence component start relay. Static stability current was replaced by Ulcosφ1 and fixed delay time was replaced by short-time open time computed in real time. An accelerate Soft Switch was used to improve open time of distance protection zone 1, UlCOSφ1 was computed by time delay of distance protection zone 2 or 3. Fault and swing characteristics were analyzed in m-| U1COSφ1| ordinate and new asymmetrical open criterion was proposed. The real-time digital simulator (RTDS) based simulation of 1000kV transmission line was simulated and simulation results conform to that of theoretical analysis.
